December 25:
Iquitos

Upon arrival at Iquitos Airport, private transfer to DoubleTree by Hilton Iquitos Hotel.

December 26:
Iquitos - Amazon Cruise

Five days and four nights exploring the wonderful Amazon, the Marañón and Ucayali rivers and their tributaries. The Pacaya Samiria Reserve will be the perfect scenario for a trip into the most exotic areas nature has to offer. As we enter the world's largest flooded forest, we will admire the extraordinary wildlife, the immense number of primate species, the hundreds of colorful exotic birds, the close-up view of the gray and pink dolphins, visit to local villages, nocturnal wildlife safaris, visit to the Manatee Rescue Center and many additional activities that will allow you to get to know and fall in love with the incredible Amazon.

Zafiro Amazon Cruise includes:

  • All meals aboard Zafiro. Every day you will enjoy a variety of flavors such as: oriental, Italian, international, Amazonian and fusion style, always made with local products. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, and a five-course dinner.
  • All excursions and equipment (including hiking boots and rain ponchos).
  • Transfers from / to the ship when arriving on recommended flights to Iquitos.
  • Entry fee to The Pacaya-Samaria National Reserve.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels Iquitos. On the road to the main dock to board the cruise ship we will enjoy a panoramic tour of the city of Iquitos.
Our staff will show you to your suite, which will be equipped with comfortable beds, 100% Peruvian Pima cotton sheets, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning and a private bathroom with a shower and amenities. Before setting sail, our bartender will serve you a cocktail prepared with local fruit and pisco, the most popular liquor in Peru. You can sip it while enjoying 360° views from the observation deck or a panoramic view from the indoor or outdoor lounge.

After setting sail, our naturalist guides will offer an overview of the travel itinerary, including activities, routes, information about wildlife and vegetation, geographical and historical context, as well as other useful info. If you have any doubts or concerns, our guides are always available to answer your questions. We’ll then enjoy the welcome dinner. Start your journey by dining Peruvian cuisine with an Amazon flare. There are many options on our menu, including vegetarian alternatives. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary needs. After dinner, you’ll be able to take in stunning views of the starry night sky while we start our journey to the to the depth of the Amazon rainforest.

December 27:
Amazon Cruise

Before breakfast, we’ll go out for a boating expedition on the Amazon River to explore the local flora and fauna. When you get back, enjoy our breakfast buffet, which offers a daily selection of traditional dishes, Peruvian specialties, freshly baked goods and a range of freshly squeezed juices.
After breakfast, we'll head out to see the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañón rivers, which give rise to the Amazon River. Here we'll observe pink and gray river dolphins.
We'll go back to the boat for lunch by midday and then have time to rest. Make sure you attend the talk about the source of the Amazon and the hydrography of the river so that you'll be up to speed for our walk to Puerto Prado, where we'll see the Victoria Amazonica, the largest water lily in the world.
We'll then head back to the boat for dinner and live music.
After dinner, we'll enjoy a nighttime outing in search of caimans, tarantulas, frogs and other nocturnal species.

December 28:
Amazon Cruise

Breakfast and outing on skiff to different lakes and lagoons, until we reach the Japanese Lagoon. There, we'll enjoy a picnic and one of the best conserved and protected areas of the Pacaya Samiria
National Reserve. It's also a popular spot to view pink river dolphins from the skiff.
Before heading back to the Zafiro, we'll take a trip to the Yanaquillo. Once we're back on the cruise ship, we'll get ready to go kayaking and take a dip in the black waters.
Head back for lunch aboard the Zafiro. Before starting the afternoon activity, our guides will give a talk about the Amazon philosophy. Afterward, we'll take a walk through the rainforest over hanging bridges, where you can admire the riches of the rainforest from the treetops.
Once we're back on the Zafiro, our bartender will give a demonstration of how to make Peruvian cocktails, and we'll then enjoy live music while we await the gala dinner with the captain.

December 29:
Amazon Cruise

Breakfast and visit to the community of San Regis, where we'll learn about the local people's way of life and traditions. We'll also learn about their ancestral traditions from the community's shaman. With our guides as interpreters, we'll be able to ask questions about spiritual connections and curing the soul. We'll then continue the ceremony by planting a tree as a positive contribution to the environment. There, we'll also see a market set up by women from the community to sell their handmade crafts.
Head back for lunch aboard the Zafiro. After resting, the guides will tell us about the myths and legends of the Amazon. In the afternoon, we'll head out on a skiff to the Shiriyacu stream.
There, we'll find a good spot to do some piranha fishing using local techniques and equipment. Back on the boat, we'll enjoy the stunning colors of the sunset.
Return to the Zafiro, live music and dinner.

December 30:
Amazon Cruise - Lima

Before breakfast, we'll visit Nauta, the second most important city in the region. Upon arriving, we'll take a motorcycle taxi to the local market where we'll see what business in the city is like firsthand.
After, we'll head back to Zafiro cruise for breakfast. After breakfast we will proceed to disembark. On the way to the airport, we will visit the Manatee Rescue Center (Amazon Forever Organization) where biologists and volunteers care for manatees, an endangered species that authorities have rescued. We will learn how manatees are treated and prepared for their return to their natural habitat. Likewise, we will be able to see other animals that have also been rescued. We will invite you to make a donation to this dedicated organization and study center.
Afterwards, you’ll be transferred to the airport.

Transfer to Iquitos Airport for your flight to Lima.

Upon arrival to Lima, private transfer to Real Intercontinental Lima Miraflores in Lima.

December 31:
Lima
Half Day Lima City Tour

You will have a panoramic view of the main streets, squares, and avenues of the city. Start with a panoramic view of the Miraflores district. You will start in the Parque del Amor, where you will observe the famous sculpture “The Kiss”, by the Peruvian artist Victor Delfin. Then, observe the impressive Huaca Pucllana, the ceremonial center of the Lima culture. Continue to the Plaza de Armas, where you will find the Government Palace and the Municipal Palace. Then visit the Cathedral and walk to the Convent of Santo Domingo, whose corridors were walked by San Martín de Porres and Santa Rosa de Lima in the 17th century and where their remains currently lie there.

January 1:
Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley

At the appropriate time, private transfer to the airport in Lima for your flight to Cusco.

Half Day Tour on the way to Sacred Valley

Upon arrival to Cusco, you are met for a private transfer and tour in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, you will be astounded by the beauty of the Andean landscapes along the way. Visit Awanakancha, a small complex to admire Andean camelids such as alpacas and llamas, and learn from local inhabitants about traditional dyeing and knitting techniques. Later explore the Pisac Market with enough free time to purchase handcrafts and if you feel like tasting something traditional, stop by the wood ovens for a delicious empanada or a piece of bread.  Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

January 2:
Sacred Valley
Full Day Incas’ Sacred Valley (Moray & Maras)

Let’s visit the most outstanding sites of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Start your day visiting the Inca terraces of Moray, with an impressive view of the colossal terraces, which were used to recreate 20 different types of microclimates, which ensured the agricultural production of the empire. Continue to Maras, the famous and ancient salt mines of the colonial era. The contrast of its white wells with the green valley is imposing and unmissable for a spectacular postcard of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Buffet lunch at a local restaurant (beverages not included). Return to the hotel.

Important: This evening you will need to pack a small bag for your train journey to Machu Picchu. For all train journeys, each passenger is allowed a carry-on bag (one bag or backpack) with a weight not to exceed 5kg/11 lbs. and maximum measurements of 62 linear in/ 157 linear cm (height + length + width). Baggage that exceeds these measurements will not be allowed. We ask you to pack the absolutely necessary for one overnight. Your extra luggage will be stored at the hotel in Cusco (you can get it back upon your arrival).

 

January 3:
Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

This morning, pick-up from your hotel to take you to Ollantaytambo station to board the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu. A train trip away to see one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. You will arrive at the Aguas Calientes station where a guide will assist you on the check-in at your hotel in Machu Picchu.

Half Day Tour to Machu Picchu

After check in at the hotel, the local guide will meet you boarding the bus to go up the winding road to Machu Picchu, amid a spectacular view of the Urubamba River and its canyon. Then, proceed to visit the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, which will astonish you with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps, and urban areas. Energy is all around. Machu Picchu altitude: 2,430 mts / 7,973 ft. After the guided visit, back to the town and enjoy a delicious lunch (included) at a local restaurant.

Important: The guided tour to Machu Picchu lasts 2 hours.

January 4:
Machu Picchu - Cusco

Second entrance to the Machu Picchu Citadel with a local guide.
At appropriate time, board the Vistadome Train to Ollantaytambo Station.

January 5:
Cusco
Half Day City Tour of Cusco and Nearby Ruins

In the morning, you will go up to the Archeological Park of Sacsayhuaman. Your excursion starts with visiting the magnificent fortress, a beautiful place that radiates peace and quiet. You will be able to admire the rocks measuring up to 4 meters high that were used in its construction. Then, you will continue to “Q’enqo”, and ancient temple of the cougar, which has an altar for sacrifices in the inner part of the rock; and “Tambomachay”, the sacred fountains of life and health. On the way, you will have a panoramic view from Puca Pucara, a watch tower that controls the entrance to the city.  After that, you will visit the Temple of the Sun “Korikancha”, on top of which the Santo Domingo Convent was built. A legend tells that his temple was entirely lined with gold sheets that marveled the Conquistadors upon their arrival. Finally, you will end your tour by visiting the Cathedral, located in front of the main square, which keeps colonial invaluable paintings and other works of religious art such as the Cross that arrived with the first conquerors.

January 6:
Cusco

At the appropriate time, private transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima.
