With 41 rooms, the Solar do Rosario is one of the largest hotels in the historic center of Ouro Preto.
The Solar was originally built in 1840 as a hotel and after falling into major disrepair, it underwent a major renovation in the 1990s and was restored to its former 19th century splendor. The rooms are elegantly decorated with colonial-style furniture, but some modern amenities have been added, including heating, luxurious bathrooms and an outdoor and indoor heated swimming pool. Located next to the Nossa Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos church, which was built by slaves in 1765, the Solar is a 10-minute stroll from Ouro Preto’s main square. The elegant hotel restaurant serves excellent regional dishes and a delectable afternoon tea.
