Day 2: Buenos Aires

Half day City Tour

Enjoy a three-hour sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan city that reflects the rich heritage of the numerous immigrants that shaped Argentina’s capital. The tour starts at the historic Plaza de Mayo square, the scene of influential political manifestations. The square is flanked by the Government House, better known as the "Pink House”; the Cabildo (the old City Hall) and the Cathedral. Further south, visit the picturesque port neighborhood of La Boca with its famous colorful street “Caminito" and the unique architecture and customs that reflect the influence of the European immigrants, especially Genovese sailors, who settled along these shores at the end of the 19th century. The tour continues towards San Telmo, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Settled by immigrants, the neighborhood has preserved most of its architectonic heritage and boasts lovely cobblestone streets lined with colonial houses. Next on the tour are the modern, well-heeled district of Puerto Madero and Palermo neighborhood with its elegant residences set among large green spaces. The tour concludes in Recoleta, Buenos Aires’ most sophisticated and upscale neighborhood.

The Argentine Experience: (Transfers not included)

The Argentine Experience is designed to give you an introduction to the best of Argentine cuisine and culture. This is NOT a cooking class, but a fun and unique experience, where you will meet and dine with people from all over the world.

An international team of guides are on hand to spoil you and take you through every step of this culinary journey.

Dinner experience start at 20hs.

1. Choose from our gourmet fillings and create your own empanada learning the traditional ‘repulgue’ technique.

2. Later, use your imagination in Argentina’s first and only novelty empanada competition. Alongside your creations, enjoy grilled provoleta cheese with sliced chorizo sausage, and homemade chimichurri.

3. Enjoy what many are claiming to be the very best steak in Argentina, cooked to order and accompanied with velvety mash potatoes and oven roasted vegetables. Our top of the line thick cut fillet steaks have a unique 24 hour preparation method that sets us apart from the rest. Vegetarian, pescetarian and celiac options are available on request.

4. 1 Torrontes and 2 distinct Malbec wines will be selected from boutique wineries in Mendoza, paired to complement our food. Learn about and enjoy unlimited wine throughout the dinner. White wine is also available on request.

5. Learn how to communicate like a true argentine with their classic hand gesture class.

6. For desert make your own alfajores, Argentina’s national sweet, where biscuits, dulce de leche, melted chocolate fondue and coconut shavings combine to delight the senses.

7. Finally, get taught about the history and etiquette of mate, Argentina’s national pastime, and prepare it from scratch among yourselves. By 23hs the dinner should be over.

Afterwards, the ship departs for “the uttermost part of the earth.” Our excursion will take us through the Beagle Channel and the Strait of Magellan to explore one of the most captivating wilderness regions in the world: Southern Patagonia, and Tierra del Fuego. We have just embarked on a Great Adventure!

Day 4: Cape Horn – Wulaia Bay

We will be sailing through Murray Channel and Nassau Bay to reach Cape Horn National Park, where, weather permitting, we shall go ashore. The legendary Cape Horn was discovered in 1616 and is a sheer 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory. For many years it was an important navigation route between the Pacific and the Atlantic, and is referred to as the ‘End of the Earth’. The park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2005. In the afternoon, we will go ashore at historic Wulaia Bay, originally the site of one of the region’s largest Yamana aboriginal settlements. Charles Darwin landed there in 1833 during his voyage on the HMS Beagle. This area is also renowned for the mesmerizing beauty of its vegetation and geography. We will take an enchanted walk through the Magellan Forest of lengas, coigües, canelos, ferns, and other endemic vegetation, to reach a panoramic viewpoint.

Day 5: Agostini Sound – Aguila Glacier

We will be sailing through Brecknock, Ocasión, Cockburn, and Magdalena Channels to enter the spectacular De Agostini Sound, in the heart of the Darwin Mountain Range. This is where we shall see glaciers sliding down the mountainside all the way to the sea. In the afternoon, in well-equipped Zodiac boats, we will travel to the Águila Glacier where we will embark upon an easy walk to its base. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the beauty of Patagonia’s cold rainforest and to see how the power of nature has moulded the spectacular landscape.

Day 06: Magdalena Island – Punta Arenas – Torres del Paine

Early in the morning, weather permitting, we will go ashore on Magdalena Island, located in the middle of the Strait of Magellan. The island used to be an essential source of supplies for navigators and explorers and is inhabited by an immense colony of Magellan Penguins that we will be able to see during our walk to the lighthouse. In September and April, this excursion is replaced by a ride aboard Zodiacs to Marta Island to observe South American Sea Lions. Finally, disembarkation at Punta Arenas is scheduled for 11:30.

After disembarkation, transfer to Patagonia Camp in Torres del Paine National Park.
