Day 03: Buenos Aires

Half day Tigre and Delta

Depart from your hotel towards the Tigre River Delta, a marshy network of water and thousands of islands. Pass through the neighborhoods of Olivos, where the President of Argentina resides, Martinez, and San Isidro, known for its neo-Gothic-style Cathedral and artisanal fairs.  Actually Tigre is a lovely, wild and natural suburb of Buenos Aires situated in the delta of Paraná River. The area was first colonized in 1580, but it was not until the last years of the 18th century when people settled in this area. The first inhabitants were smugglers who took advantage of the labyrinth of little rivers and isles to hide and to enter the country with goods, evading the customs taxes. Finally, in the last years of the 19th century, Tigre has become a favorite place for recreation for the people of Buenos Aires who come hee to relax, hike, kayak, fish and swim, and recently the upper classes are buying homes on the more remote islands. .

At the dock, board a boat to cruise along different rivers and streams of Parana’s Delta, made up of   several little isles covered with abundant subtropical vegetation, crossed by channels and streams,  Highlights of this boat ride include picturesque houses, rowing and yacht clubs, old residences making contrast with wooden houses built over piles to beat the constant floods, and the way of living of this community contrasting the fast-paced rhythm of downtown Buenos Aires. On Sundays, near San Fernando Channel the local fair called Mercado de Frutos takes place. By the afternoon, return to your hotel.
