This sheer 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory was discovered in 1616 and it is known as the “End of the Earth”.
In the afternoon, the ship sails to the historic Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region’s largest Yamana aboriginal settlements. Charles Darwin landed here on January 23rd, 1833, during the voyage of the HMS Beagle. Day 10: El Calafate
Half Day Perito Moreno Glacier
Departure from your hotel to Perito Moreno Glacier, situated inside Los Glaciares National Park, driving some 80 km (50 miles) from El Calafate, partially along a gravel road. The first half of the drive is through the typical Patagonian steppe, with broom sedges (a hard and thorny type of grass) and 'calafates' (bushes of the barberry family, known for their yellow flowers and violet fruits). Along the way, one can see Lago Argentino while keeping an eye out for a variety of interesting bird species, particularly Condors. As one approaches the National Park, the landscape changes dramatically, with vegetation becoming much thicker, dominated by species from the Andine-Patagonian forest such as beech trees and shrubs, and the rumbling of blocks of ice breaking off Perito Moreno Glacier start to make its impression. Perito Moreno is an imposing ice river measuring some 30 km (19 mi) long and 5 km (3 mi) wide, with a front wall that reaches 60 meters (100-195 feet) above the lake, and ice that reaches a depth of 250 to 350 meters (800-1,150 feet). The impressive creaking and squealing, with the occasional thunderous roars is a stark reminder of the glacier’s constant movement. The glacier’s breathtaking beauty and magnificent scenery have earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Designation. Walk the trails by the western wall to admire this impressive wonder of nature from different points of view. (National Park entrance fee not included).
After the tour, private transfer to the airport.
